Roland Joynes returned from Haiti
on Friday and gave us an update on the situation there. Roland has led
teams for MIA for the past 20 years, many of these teams for natural
disasters. Roland took in supplies from the Bahamas via chartered jet.
He was able to give them to Christian leaders on the ground there. We
had a staff meeting to plan and organize relief in Haiti:
• Hyacinth and the Miami office staff have sent into Haiti by
air cargo, supplies of water, food, medicines, clothing, etc. to The
Littlest Angels Orphanage.
•Dr. Silvia Martinez, MIA Missionary in the Dominican Republic,
has been traveling across to Haiti and working in the Jacmel area. She
makes trips back to the Dominican Republic to purchase supplies that
require a doctor’s prescription.
•Dr. Silvia Martinez will lead a caravan next week - a medical
team (from Santo Domingo) carrying relief supplies and medicines, accompanied
by security provided by the Dominican Republic security guards.
•Dr. Steve Wolffe, CEO of the Indiana Regional Hospital, and member
of Graystone Presbyterian Church, will supply us with some much needed
24 and 25 gauge Jelco IV needles (needed for children).
•MIA has arranged for the accommodation of medical teams in Port-au-Prince
at the Guest House (which was completed and used by MIA as such in the
past). We plan to also use our project in Cotin (between Port-au-Prince
and the Dominican Republic) as another point of operation. Many people
are moving out of Port-au-Prince to unaffected areas in Haiti (i.e.,
Aux Cayes, Conin (off the mainroad to the Dominican Republic) and other
communities that are accessible to our teams.
•Nurse Joan Page-Bain is on-site in our clinic at Guichard, and
will network with the multitudes of ailing Haitians who have returned
to Aux Cayes from Port-au-Prince seeking help at Hospital Lumiere on
the compound where MIA began its work in Haiti 40 years ago.
How
You Can Help: We have requested the pastors of several
churches (in the U.S.) to ask their members to bring to church unopened
(not outdated) OTC pain relievers such as Advil, Tylenol, and Aleve,
as well as antibiotic wipes and creams, which they will send to our
office in Miami for shipping to our medical teams. All the churches
we contacted were enthusiastic in their response. Donations in kind
help us to stretch our dollars in this worthy cause.
In the next two weeks, Roland,
Bresile and possibly Pastor Kevin will meet with six Haitian pastors
in Port-au-Prince, who have been involved with us in our ongoing ministry
in Haiti. These godly and dedicated servants of Christ will be involved
not only in our relief effort, but will also give leadership, together
with our staff and missionaries in our recovery effort in the future.
Kathryn Stephens, our director of Medical Missions, is developing a
short and long-term strategy and proposal.
Praise God with us for the generous
response from our friends for funding for this God-honoring opportunity.
Don’t miss out - you too can give and pray and go.

The news coming out of Haiti is
still fluid. Roland Joynes, an MIA associate who leads teams into Haiti,
is flying into Haiti today from the Bahamas. Roland will try to make
contact with our missionaries in Port-au-Prince and visit the Oasis
Guest house. Our goal is to find adequate facilities to house medical
teams and work teams to provide immediate help.
The senior staff of MIA had a meeting
with some US Air Force Personnel from Homestead AFB to see if MIA can
ship supplies to Haiti through Homestead AFB and to see if they can
help with field tents in order to set up medical facilities and housing.
Right now we are partnering with
two other mission organizations - Haiti Great Commission Alliance and
Double Harvest. Both organizations need Medical Personnel. If you are
a health care provider and are interested in helping out in Haiti, please
contact MIA and we will put you in contact with one of these organizations.
A big thanks to all the Miami staff
of MIA who have been working so hard over the past week. We are all
mentally and emotionally drained. Please keep up all in your prayers
and please continue to pray for Haiti!

We have received new information
regarding our personnel in Haiti:
Pastor Solange Joseph (MIA Missionary,
Church Growth) and his family are fine.
Nurse Joan Bain (MIA Haiti, Medical): She and her family are fine.
Pastor Eneck (MIA Missionary, Church Growth) and his family are safe
and sound!
The medical clinics and guest house are fine.
Sam Rice a former MIA missionary is fine. His home is not damaged.
Pastor Bresile St. Germain's family is fine.
The medical clinics in Guichard and Dariol are fine. We are still waiting
for information from Flamand.
The Oasis guest house built by MIA in Carrefour is fine.
Please pray that roads will be
opened soon so that supplies can be quickly routed to the earthquake
victims. Pray for quick recovery for those still trapped in debris and
for civil stability.

We are deeply saddened by the news
that hundreds of thousands of lives were potentially lost in yesterday’s
earthquake, located outside Port-au-Prince. One of our Miami staff members
has received word that a member of her family was killed. We are still
awaiting word concerning the well-being of our own missionary families.
MIA has established a dual goal
where Haiti is concerned: We will meet the immediate physical needs.
Once the initial crisis has subsided, we will meet the long-term physical,
medical and spiritual ones.
We are actively soliciting immediate
donations of food, water, and clothing. We have already been in contact
with other reliable, reputable mission organizations in the US to ensure
that these donations are quickly transported and immediately available
to churches in Haiti. Roland Joynes, who is our MIA associate and leads
teams for us to Haiti, will be in Haiti this weekend, making a firsthand
assessment.
Bresile St. Germain, our Haitian
director, is contacting pastors and churches that MIA has established
a working relationship with in the past. We will also be working with
his son, who is a pastor in Haiti, and other mission organizations.
Our long-term goal is to work with
churches and church leaders in helping their members rebuild their homes.
Through Project Ebenezer we will assist these churches in establishing
social transformational projects, empowering them for long-term sustainability.
MIA is doing all it can to bring
relief to Haiti quickly. Please make any special donations to MIA with
a notation that it is for the Haitian Relief Fund.
