Joan Page-Bain
Guichard, Haiti - Project Ebenezer

Joan Page-Bain is a registered nurse originally from Jamaica. She was recruited by MIA as a
missionary nurse to Guichard, Haiti in 1990 and has faithfully served there ever
since, providing that community with much-needed medical and nutritional
services spiritual leadership.
Over the past sixteen years, Nurse Page-Bain has used her professional skills to
minister to the needs of the people of Guichard and the surrounding areas,
including a small village called Achilles. These are some of the programs which
she has introduced and in which she has been involved since the beginning of her
ministry:
AIDS awareness
Pre-natal care
Cardio-vascular screening
Screening for cancer
Womens health including special education on cancer prevention
Surgery done by visiting surgeons
Feeding programs for the very young
Nutritional awareness
Midwifery
Training of midwifery team
Training of nursing assistants
Currently, one of the areas on which she is focusing is nutrition for the very
young. As a result of failed crops and widespread poverty, many of the children
are mal-nourished. The worst of these comprises approximately ten babies and
toddlers in the program. Many of the older children are also mal-nourished and
often attend school without a meal. Nurse Page-Bain desires to expand the
current program by including more babies and toddlers and providing at least one
nutritious meal per school day for the older children.
